Announcing the winners of the PEN E-PL1 Test Drive competition!

To say the entries into this year's Olympus PEN E-PL1 Test Drive comp were fantastic is just too much of an understatement!... WOW.... We are all just blown away by the quality and immense creativity that has come out of the 30 finalist's imagination -  through the PEN E-PL1 and onto the computer screen! Thank you all so much for your participation in this event but as they say there can only be one winner.....No wait a minute, we can have more than one!  How about TWO major winners, ONE Public Choice winner, TWO runners up AND a curator's choice award!

Congratulations to all of the place getters! It certainly was not an easy decision but we are sure you will agree that anyone who can photograph like these finalists are winners already!

So - without further ado - The winning entrants, a selection of their imagery and just what prizes they have won...

Another photo in the kitchen of the abandoned camp, taking a break and eating a plum.

1/40th sec @ f/4 Focal length 14mm ISO 1600

I took my wonderful friend to shoot in an old 70's style mansion. Bought a fish at the markets as a prop and bought my old bathers. Set against this wonderful wallpaper, I did not have to adjust anything in this photo. The Olympus just took the shot I wanted.

60th sec @ f/3.5 Focal length 14mm ISO 320

High key at an abandoned school camp. Lightened and rounded edges for more of a vintage touch.

The Hurricane Mistress
Waiting for Wine

I crept up to the roof of a burnt out house. I'm quite proud of the perfect exposure of the sky, along with the inside of the house. well done Olympus!

2000th sec @ f/5 Focal length 16mm ISO 200

Added a little bit of pop and then desaturated a little so as not to blind you with colour.

1/6th sec @ f/3.5 Focal length 14mm 800 ISO

Another photo of the fabulous chair in the mansion. I played around with the wide angle until the optics started to confuse a little.

1/25th sec @ f/3.5 Focal length 14mm ISO 1600

Bohemian Caravan
Carriages
John Curtin Medical School

This caravan had an amazing interior which is used as a mobile - and somewhat bohemian - cafe and performance space. I applied the pin-hole art filter to this.

1/80th sec @ f/5.6 14mm ISO 320

I was at a train station at the same time as a bunch of steam train enthusiasts! Shot with the ubiquitous pin hole effect that was applied to this picture.

1/60th sec @ f/5.6 30mm ISO 500

Taken in the late afternoon in monochrome with the red filter selected. Blue bky darkened to nearly black with levels and sharpening applied.

2000th sec @ f/5 23mm ISO 200

Railway Crossing
The Pop Art Filter
Typewriter

These signs were lying abandoned near a rural train station. The subject matter responded beautifully to the high contrast grainy film filter treatment. No other changes made.

1/160th sec @ f.5 14mm ISO 200

Out of all my pictures I have included here, this is the only time I shot with the pop art filter. As you can see it exaggerates the colours a lot.

80th sec @ f/5.6 14mm ISO 4000

Shot late at night in the back room of a pub with a single ceiling light directly above the subject. I used a high ISO and the noise reduction took care of the noise beautifully!

1/25th sec 2 f/4 14mm ISO 1600

Public Choice winner of a brand new Olympus PEN E-PL1!

Batman
Blue Broadcast
Portrait Of A Clown

I wanted to achieve a moody image here. I love the shadows and the peeling paint.  Again I used the pin-hole effect for the wonderful vignette it creates. I under exposed it by -0.3 of a stop to accentuate the shadows.

1/50th sec 2 f/3.5 ISO 500

To achieve the blue tones in this infra red image I held a R72 filter over the lens then selected monotone in picture mode, set the B&W filter to red and the picture tone to blue. Slight hue adjust in PS. What a surprising little package!

5 secs @ f/6.3 ISO 100

Couldn't resist my favourite setting on this one. The pin-hole filter. It suited the image perfectly. Once again this amazing camera performed on par with my full size DSLR!

1/25th sec @ f/4.5 ISO125

The Alley
The Beauty Of Uncertainty *Public Choice*
Woosh

This image was taken with the grainy black and white film filter. I love this filter too. I'm really impressed that this camera allows great results straight  from the camera to computer without any post work if that's your choice!

1/125th sec @ f/4.5 ISO 200

I shot this sunset purely as I would with my DSLR and it held up wonderfully! I attached 2 cokin filters (orange & blue) to the lens to really stretch out the exposure. I also set the aspect ratio to 16:9 to give me more width within the image.

13 secs @ f/22 ISO 100

I love the colour in this shot. I used a long shutter speed and just moved the camera while holding the shutter down. I simply increased the saturation in post. I'm really happy with how this turned out!

1/6th sec @ f/22 ISO 100
