| Melbourne PhotoArt Gallery Photowalk 4th September |
|
|
For all Melbourne/Victorian photo-walkers. I've been tapped on the shoulder by Photo Art Gallery mothership and asked to help get this Melbourne event happening.
I'm going to arrange it for Saturday 4th September, and my plan is that we meet up at 4.30pm at the corner of Alexandra Parade and Anderson Street South Yarra (the north-east corner outside the Botanical Gardens, near the pedestrian Anderson St Bridge). We can then meander along the Yarra banks (whichever side you like) past the great sports stadiums and arenas, and along the shared paths under the budding avenues of trees, through Birrarung Marr gardens alongside the south edge of the CBD, through to the Arts and Southbank precinct, and end up at Federation Square around 6pm as the sun sets and the night lights come up. Once we have an idea of numbers we can book one of the Fed Square bars for a chance to compare notes and revive. Any stalwarts wanting to continue after that could venture out for some night shooting.
We will then set up a thread on this Phorum for participants to post their favourite shots onto, and maybe squeeze some recognition and reward out of the Gallery for the best.
First up, we need to capture the numbers, so answer here and we'll see how we go.
Look forward to seeing a good turn-up on the day. |

Rather than just leave the thread empty.
Sorry can't make it. Nice idea but maybe another time.
Not being a AFL follower I'm not sure but if there is a final at the MCG that day parking and access could be an issue in the area. |

Sorry you can't make it that day, K1W1, but if it's a success I'd hope other member events will follow.
As for the MCG on the 4th September, we won't know until the week before if there's a match on that afternoon or evening. Depends on the ladder, and which teams are playing, and who earns the 'home' advantage, eg if it's Freemantle higher up than its opponent the match will be in Perth.
In any event, because the walk starts South Yarra and ends in the CBD, I'd encourage participants to get there by being dropped off, or catching a number 8 tram and walking down from the Park Street/Domaine Road corner along Anderson Street, or walking across from the Swan Street tram, or Richmond Station. After the end of the walk getting home from Flinders Street will be easy for everyone.
If there is a footy final at the MCG and the lights are on, it will add to the atmosphere and the photo opportunities as we walk past. |

I'm in. Will catch the train in most likely anyways. Not sure if Fed Square will be packed with footy goers if the final is on the same day? View Angelo's gallery | Photos of Melbourne photo walk: 1, 2 | Next Melbourne photo walk: 3 | Nissan 4x4 Club Victoria |

We won't know until the week leading up to the day what's happening with AFL finals at the MCG. Depends on who is playing, which team ends up playing at their home ground, and if it's at the G whether the fixture is Friday night, Saturday afternoon or night, or Sunday.
As soon as we know, we can work around it all. Plenty of places to end our walk and gather if some alternative is needed. |

| I'm probably interested. It depends a bit on what my partner wants to do too though. |

| Darn ... I'd really like to join the walk but have to start work at 5pm. I hope these walks are going to be a regular occurrence as I'd love to be able to compare notes with fellow PhotoArt people. Have a great time! |

| I'm in, love the idea. I missed out on the world wide photo-walk last month, so there is no chance I will miss this. Thanks for organising it. |

| I'd love to attend. But, alas, I have to work that day. If you don't get enough attendees for the 4th you may wish to reschedule for the 11th...just a suggestion. And thanks for the invitation. Peter |

As of 19th August there are 8 members who have said they're coming along, so it's definitely on for 4th September.
If it's a success, it can be done again (and again) in different locations, although probably not too frequently. |

This Melbourne meet up is looking really positive, I think Team Phart will probably be emailing everyone that has expressed interest with the details and to conirm that they will be attending to make sure that jozioau knows the final numbers to expect on the day.
Wish I could go!

Nicola,
To make sure you get the full count, you'll need to check on this thread, as well as the New Member Get-together thread, as well as the Melbourne Group, as well as any replies to the postings on Twitter, Facebook and the PhotoArt Gallery Blog.
We'll certainly be going ahead, come rain, hail or storm, and regardless of footy finals at the MCG.
In the week leading up to the event we'll know about the timing of the footy and can plan around it.
