When we found out that one of our talented members was offered an exhibition of his work we just had to brag about it! So here is a little background on Geoff Smith aka GEMAX_photographics and his new exhibition!

"Growing up on the south coast of NSW, I was surrounded by ocean, rock shelves and sand. I lived for the surf, and much of the inspiration for my landscape photography came from beautiful coastal scenery from The Royal National Park to Batemans Bay.
However an interesting thing happened a number of years ago, we started to visit the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area to the west of Sydney. Running through the middle of this area is the Great Western Highway which links Sydney to the Central West region of NSW. On either side of the Highway are 2 valleys. To the south is the Jamison Valley, where the famous 3 Sisters rock formation is located in Katoomba. To the north is the Grose Valley, with its famous views from Govetts Leap in Blackheath.

We have been captivated by the area, and have visited 3-4 times a year for the past 5 years. Last year the new owners of the Wattle Cafe in Blackheath invited artists to decorate the walls of their cafe with works for 2 months at a time, and I participated in August & September.
I’m participating again from 8 March 2011 for 2 months. The exhibition of 11 prints covers some old favourite landscapes, creeks & waterfalls like Pulpit Rock, Popes Glen Creek and the Kanimbla Valley in Blackheath, together with some more recently discovered views from Fortress Ridge in Leura.
The Wattle Cafe in Blackheath serves hearty breakfasts, wholesome lunches, fancy cakes & tarts, and fabulous coffee. The Blackheath area is great for a weekend, a day trip, or even if you’re passing through to/from Bathurst or Dubbo."
