Jason Orton's Olympic project

With the Olympics only a year away we thought we would add to the hype by looking at a project from photog Jason Orton and commissioned by the Telegraph to document the changing landscape of London's new Olympic grounds.

"These photographs were taken during three visits to Olympic Park between January and June 2011. They are the second in a series of three commissions for the Telegraph Magazine that will appear in the run-up to the Games in 2012.

When I first visited the Olympic Park in early 2010 landscapes were being shaped around stadia that were in various stages of completion. Most of the stadia are now externally complete and work is concentrated on the landscapes in between.

These photographs form part of a wider study of the Lower Lea Valley in east London and the areas that border the Olympic Park. It is my intention that the photography will be presented as a complete body of work in 2012.

It is not enough to consider the site in isolation, the photography must also explore what is happening around the edges. Significant claims are being made about the benefits of the games for local communities. The validity of those claims cannot be tested at this stage, but what photography can do is record some of those changes and continue to do so up until and after the games have ended."
