Maurice Bloomfield has passed away this week at the age of 94. British born, Bloomfield was one of the first photographers to use his corporate commissions to take artistic portraits and photographic studies of the industrial environment.

One of the most important factors in Bloomfields work was his revolutionary use of lighting in his shots - this was heavilt informed by his earlier training in the medium of paint. He believed that through the use of unusual angles and lighting the viewer could gain a new perspective on a normally mundane subject.

Bloomfield shot industrial scenes for thirty very successful years, but he eventually went back to his first love of painting before he died.
