"The month-long festival is unique in that it celebrates the city’s unrivalled capacity for wonderful food, stimulating art and good fun in our incomparable outdoor environment.
This year, is the event will focus on Sydney itself, with much of the work exploring and questioning what it means to live in this exciting and eclectic city. The City of Sydney has been delighted to collaborate with John Kaldor from Kaldor Public Art projects in bringing photographic portraits of 100 Sydney faces to our street banners. These images capture a unique glimpse of our city and the diversity of the people who live here. The City will display the popular Sydney Life photography exhibition in Hyde Park, a look into Sydney’s laneways with Laneway Art: Are You Looking at Me? and will see some iconic Sydney statues dressed up in costumes that reinterpret our history.
Art & About Sydney focuses on the importance of a green future for our city, with pieces that highlights our commitment to creating a sustainable Sydney. You can discover the giant Penny Farthing bicycle made from salvaged bikes, and be part of the solution to transport issues in Sydney by taking up cycling as an alternate mode of travel.
In making our art more sustainable artists working with the local Surry Hills community have used recycled materials to transform the construction site fencing around Prince Alfred Park into a public artwork. The popular Live Green House returns this time to Hyde Park, and will come alive as an ArtPark for three days with talks, screenings, workshops and performances.
In closing Art & About is all about our creative industries, these creative people are the voice behind our imaginative, awe inspiring city and inspire our people to develop and cultivate our creative communities."
The festival runs til the 24th of October
