New de-noise plugin for Photoshop

by Team_Phart 19. August 2010 20:39

Topaz Labs announces a major upgrade of the Topaz DeNoise plug-in, which features a double increase in speed, double the maximum image size and many additional noise reduction capabilities. Powered by unique Intellinoise technology, Topaz DeNoise 5 specializes in quickly reducing heavy noise while preserving detail in high-ISO images.

“DeNoise 5 is twice as fast as its predecessor. It also introduces unique shadow tone restoration and dual-directional debanding capabilities, which enable photographers to solve additional problems caused by heavy noise,” said Dr. Albert Yang, President of Topaz Labs. "We're very pleased to be able to offer these new noise reduction features to our customers."

Nichole Paschal, photographer and Marketing Specialist for Topaz Labs, explains, “The new Correct Black Level parameter in Topaz DeNoise 5 restores image richness by removing hazy color casts that appear in shadow areas. It also eliminates both horizontal and vertical banding noise, often visible as lines that extend across high ISO images. With these two new features, DeNoise 5 now offers users the ability to solve more noise reduction issues than ever before."

The new Topaz DeNoise 5 plug-in is the only commercial noise reduction software to remove high ISO noise while simultaneously recovering details, and now processes at twice the speed of earlier versions. It is a plug-in that works with a variety of host programs including Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Aperture, iPhoto and Lightroom. Topaz DeNoise 5 is a free upgrade for existing DeNoise customers and retails for $79.99. For more information or to download a 30-day trial of Topaz DeNoise 5, visit the homepage at http://www.topazlabs.com/denoise.

Tracey Moffat's - The Plantation.

by Team_Phart 17. August 2010 21:32

Famed Queenslander artist Tracey Moffat often uses her work to 'lash out' artistically at the subject that provoke her. In her latest project 'The Plantation' she manages this with an eloquently provocative approach by hinting at the cultural attitudes towards the slave trade.

The actual reality of the images is unclear, but that is part of the purpose of the work. Instead the pictures leave you with a vision of sunlight and a feeling of hovering tension in this anonymous setting.
The project almost didn't happen as the images were shot by Moffat 13 years ago and were only recently discovered by her abandonded in a store room.

When Moffat made the finding she decided that the images would have much more of a conceptual direction if printed using various techniques, including touching up with watercolours, to give them a more archival, historical feel. Adding power to their simple message.

Community Photo Walk Days

by Team_Phart 16. August 2010 21:40

I'm sure a few of you have noticed the activity of late about arranging some member get togethers. Well, we are glad to announce that we have pinned down a date for both our Melbourne and Brisbane members to hold a Photo Walk........ September 4th 2010!

MELBOURNE

Our Melbourne Photo Walk is being arranged by our lovely member jozioau and this is what he has planned for the day..........

"Meet up at 4.30pm at the corner of Alexandra Parade and Anderson Street South Yarra (the north-east corner outside the Botanical Gardens, near the pedestrian Anderson St Bridge). We can then meander along the Yarra banks (whichever side you like) past the great sports stadiums and arenas, and along the shared paths under the budding avenues of trees, through Birrarung Marr gardens alongside the south edge of the CBD, through to the Arts and Southbank precinct, and end up at Federation Square around 6pm as the sun sets and the night lights come up. Once we have an idea of numbers we can book one of the Fed Square bars for a chance to compare notes and revive. Any stalwarts wanting to continue after that could venture out for some night shooting."

TO JOIN IN THE MELBOURNE WALK LET US KNOW HERE!!!!

BRISBANE

Our member Steve has very kindly agreed to arrange a Photo Walk for our Brisbane members........

"For the Brisbane folk, I was thinking also a Saturday afternoon, we could start at the City Botanical Gardens, make our way across the Goodwill Bridge, possibly sunset on the bridge then on to Southbank, swing through the night markets then finish up at Greystone Bar on Little Stanley."

TO JOIN IN THE BRISBANE WALK LET US KNOW HERE!!!!

Sounds like two great days, so if one of these is your nearest capital be sure to get involved and meet some like minded people. Photo Art Gallery is even going to give a prize to the best image from each day, now there's an offer!!

The Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize 2010

by Team_Phart 13. August 2010 23:19

With the State Library of NSW hosting the 2010 Moran winners exhibition we thought that we would take the time to check out this years winner for the Contemporary Photographic Prize, Dean Sewell.

Sewell won with this image titled Cockatoo Is. Ferry, an image that shows off his ability to capture candid street style shots with a beauty of emotion without compromising on the style.
A native of Sydney, Sewells's work is anchored in photojournalism with his career beginning at the Sydney Morning Herald. Infact he has recieved an impressive array of awards from the news industry including nods from the World Press and Visa pour L'Image.
His images tend to concentrate on the changesof social behaviour caused by an ever modernising culture, with occasional work exploring the impact of climate change on the environment.

'37 or So Ingredients' by Dwight Eschliman

by Team_Phart 11. August 2010 22:15

Most food photography tries to make it's subjects look beautiful and appetising, however, in photographer Dwight Eschlimans's latest project '37 or So Ingredients' he has no such mercy on America's favourite snack.

In an age where eating healthily and organically has become popular, Eschilman helps to spell out exactly why! The seemly unthreatening, even dull series of images only manages to create its full impact when put into context as the deconstructed state of one of the most eaten products in the US, the beloved Twinkie.

Seeing the series Eschliman makes you realise just how unfood like these mass produced foods have become.

Lives of the rich and famous on show at Brighton 2010

by Team_Phart 10. August 2010 22:31

The 2010 Bighton Internation Photography festival is known for attracting the headliners of the industry. However, this year the festival is being curated by Magnum photographer Martin Parr, who, along with internationally acclaimed photographers such as; Robert Mapplethorpe and John Deakin, has decided to take the time to showcase some less 'usual' niche photographers.

One such shortlisted name is Nick Gleis, whose expertise lies in photographing the most exclusive, world class private jets and VIP aircraft.

Gleis who has photographed jets for everybody from Hollywood celebrities to African Head of states and Royalty. Due to the "extremely security-sensitive" nature of the images he is unable to disclose who each aircraft belongs to. However, he felt that the images would be of interest to the festival "because of the unique design of the aircraft".

THOSE Ansel Adam Negatives

by Team_Phart 9. August 2010 21:55

The drama concerning a collection of antique glass-plate photographic negatives bought by a wall painter Rick Norsigian in a garage sale 10 years ago rages on.

Experts agree that the negatives seem authentic, which has spurred the beginning of sales by Norsigian of prints created from the plates. However, Adam's family and friends remain skeptical about their connection to the photographer and doubt the estimates of the plates being worth $200 million. Adam's business manager William Turnage believes that "If they were any good, he would have printed them. He printed everything that he felt was good. And [prints from Adams' hand] look completely different from what anybody they've hired to stamp out prints would make."

Norsigians experts have therorized that the negatives survived a 1937 fire in Adams studio, as suggested by scortch marks on some of them." However, Matthew Adams, the grandson of the photographer claims that Ansel was extremely cautious about his negatives, keeping them under lock and key when not using them to make prints. "He treated the negatives as if they were his children".

Ultimately the decision will be left to the public as Norsigian puts his lost negatives prints on sale.

Above and Below Down Under by Odette England

by Team_Phart 6. August 2010 20:45

When British photographer Odette England was invited to Australia to do an Artitsts Research Residency, she was thrown into the heart of the outback. Odette was sent to live and work at the Arid Zone Research Station of the Imaging the Land Research Institute (ILIRI), the only institute concerned with artistic interpretation of the science of land.

It was here that the project 'As above, So below' was born, a series of shots in which Odette shoots an image directly below her of the ground and directly above of the sky and then brings them together as a double exposure.
The concpet was inspired by the aborginal cultural belief that the heavens and the earth are the foundation of all creatures, including themselves. Land and sky are more than just geographical icons; but mirrors in which they see themselves reflected.
